Part-time Health Educator/Tobacco Control Coordinator needed for Chippewa County Health Department. Salary range $19.91 to $23.84 per hour.
Job Summary
1.
Meets with program consultants, provides reports on progress, responds to requests, and follows plan outline. Assists in preparation of annual reports.
2. Assists other community-based health prevention programs in coordinating community awareness activities. Represents best practices and expertise to area groups.
3. Participates in community awareness and prevention events, assists in individualized activities among the organizational members.
4. Assists local and regional organizations with tobacco cessation needs and resources, presents tobacco prevention model policies and services to professional organizations, service clubs, medical leadership, and business groups.
5. Assists in establishing and maintaining close cooperative working relationships between all agencies which may contribute to health education. Prepares, select, and distributes health education materials.
6. Recruits members for, organizes, and represents community-based coalitions to the public. Schedules meetings, follows bylaws, staffs Executive Committee, proposes policy positions, organizes community celebration days, assists in individualized activities among the organizational members.
7. Organizes training for medical professionals, high school students, medical students and coalition volunteers. Coordinates location and training details, secures qualified presenters and arranges for payment and accommodations, provides training materials, marketing, attends training sessions. Provides continuing education credits or medical education credits for nurse and physician training.
8. All other duties as assigned.

Refrains from holding negative conversations about duties, assignments, co-workers and clients. Adheres to Health Department telephone courtesy standards for answering, placing and transferring calls,
as well as general telephone use. Does not allow personal telephone calls or visitors to interfere with telephone responsibilities, public encounters or customer courtesy to others. Demonstrates an effort to assure that customers/clients wait in definite expectations of when and how they will be served. Professionally addresses others (smile, handshake, eye contact, voice, posture, grammar, grooming and dress). Responsible for promoting and securing potential clients and referrals.*

Education, Training and Experience
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma; some college courses in health education or substance use disorder prevention preferred; must hold certification as a SUD Prevention Specialist or have the ability to become certified within 18 months of employment.
Experience: One year in a health promotion/education capacity.
Other Requirements: Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and vehicular insurance. Position requires travel around Chippewa and other Counties; reliable transportation necessary. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health education and planning, including methods of administration, community organization and interagency relations, various techniques used in health instruction and the appraisal and evaluation of the public health education. Considerable knowledge of the current social and economic problems pertaining to public health. Ability to collect and interpret demographic and bio-statistical data. Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising problems and making decisions. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports. Ability to work effectively with the public and other employees.
